ROYAL THEATER

Madrid. SPAIN.

The Royal Theater or simply El Real, as it’s known colloquially is a must-see theatre and opera house for all art- inclined people. It is considered as one of the most representative theaters on a global scale. Included in this compilation 9 OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THEATERS OF SPAIN.

It was founded in 1818 by order of the king Fernando VII, although the construction of the building was stopped for a while and that’s why the theater opened its doors only in 1850. It was built in the Neoclassical style.

Architects; Antonio López Aguado, Custodio Teodoro Moreno, Francisco Cabezuelo, for the first construction, & José Manuel González Valcárcel, Francisco Rodríguez Partearroyo for the rebuilding during 1990 – 1997.

The building: 65.000 m2, capacity, 1756.

GRAN LYCEUM THEATER

Barcelona, SPAIN.

One of the most important theaters of the world . From 1847 it has been a stage of performances and works of big prestige. It is the place of meeting of the Catalan nobility, it is located on La Rambla in the center of Barcelona.

Architects; Miguel Garriga i Roca for the fist construction – 1847, Josep Oriol Mestres for the second one – 1862 & Ignasi de Solà-Morales for the last one in 1999.

Capacity: 2292.

ROMEA THEATER

Murcia, SPAIN.

The theater Romea was built in the middle of the nineteenth century . The main style of the the theater is the Neoclassicism, but it is also combined with eclectic and modernist styles. In the the front of the building you can see the busts of Beethoven, Mozart and Listz. The theater was inaugurated by the Queen Elizabeth II in October, 1862.

Capacity: 1179.

PRINCIPAL MAHÓN THEATER

Menorca. Islas Baleares. SPAIN.

The theater Mahon is the oldest theater house of Spain. It was built in 1829 by the Italian architecture Giovanni Palagi. And we can notice the classic Italian design of the interior and the building itself.

Capacity: 837 seats.

CALDERÓN THEATER

Valladolid. SPAIN.

The Theatre Calderón in Valladolid is an outstanding building which dates back to 1864 when all the works were finished . Here you can enjoy different types of artistic performances from different genres : theater, opera, operetta, dance, ballet and jazz. This theater is the main stage for projections during the Valladolid International Film Week (SEMINCI). Also there are different places inside to realize exhibitions, events and other not scenic activities.

Capacity: 1.141 people & 961 seats.

ARRIAGA THEATER

Bilbao. País Vasco. SPAIN.

The Theater Arriaga was built in the neobarroco and eclectic styles that dates back to the end of the nineteenth century and it was inaugurated in May, 1890. The theater was named in honour of the Bilbao musician Juan Crisóstomo de Arraiga, known as ” the Spanish Mozart”.

Architects: Joaquín de Rucoba.

Capacity: 1.500.

ELYSIAN FIELDS THEATER

Bilbao. País Vasco. SPAIN.

The theater was inaugurated in 1902. it is the most technically advanced theater from its reinauguration of 2010. It is a milestone from the beginning of the twentieth century built in the modernist and eclectic styles and considered as a cultural monument of great interest.

Architects: Alfredo Acebal.

Capacity: 1.120.

GRAN FALLA THEATER

Cádiz. Andalucía. SPAIN.

The theater Falla was inaugurated in 1883. The distinctive Mudejar style is evident in this building. The theater is luxuriously decorated, the roof is covered with a big linen of Felipe Abarzuza, which represents an allegory of the Paradise.

Architects: Adolfo Morales de los Ríos, Adolfo del Castillo Escribano, García del Álamo,  Juan Cabrera de la Torre, Rafael Otero y José Antonio Carvajal.

Capacity: 1214.

DE ROJAS THEATER

Toledo. Castilla la Mancha. SPAIN.

It was inaugurated in 1879.

In the paintings that adorn its interior roof we can see the muse of the theater, Talia. and the theater is represented as an accessible art place with works of Calderon de la Barca, Tirso de Molina or Francisco de Rojas whose name owes the theater itself.

Capacity: 432 seats.

Architects: Luis Antonio Fenech & Ramiro Amador de los Ríos.
